Successful Treatment of Bipolar Disorder With a Nutritional Supplement: Ten Cases

Recent research on various nutrients has suggested that some mental illness might be ameliorated by supplementation. Much work has focused on essential fatty acids (1), although various minerals are also being studied (especially zinc). We are evaluating a broad-based nutritional supplement that contains primarily trace minerals, plus vitamins and amino acids.

Recent work has suggested that crops grown with western farming methods contain fewer of these essential nutrients than they did in years past (2) . Although we have been examining the effects of the supplement on a variety of psychiatric symptoms in both children and adults, it appears to be particularly promising for bipolar disorder in adults.

We will present an open case series of 10 male patients aged 20-46 years who thus far have taken the supplement for 1.5 – 6 months. Four were diagnosed with Bipolar I, four with Bipolar II, one with Bipolar Mixed, and one with Bipolar-NOS. In most cases, the supplement has entirely replaced psychoactive medications and the patients have remained well. Side effects (e.g., nausea) have been rare, minor, and transitory. In all cases, the patients have been evaluated periodically with the Hamilton-Depression Scale, the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, and the Young Mania Rating Scale.

The change in mean scores for each scale from study entry to the time of the last visit are as follows: Ham-D (20.4 to 8.2), BPRS (37.3 to 9.9), YMRS (16.8 to 6.1), and OQ (75.2 to 48.2).
A randomized, placebo-controlled trial of the supplement for Bipolar I has been funded and began in July 2000.

Zinc orotate would be one. Zinc polynicotinate would be another. Start w/ 25mg. You can go up from there, but under no circumstances should you exceed 80-100mg. as excess zinc will depress your copper level/uptake, has a host of serious negative side effects and can be toxic. If you’re eating seaweed, sea foods (ie oysters and other shell fish), or pumpkin seeds by the handful, do not forget to take this into consideration when trying to determine how much zinc you’re actually taking in on a daily basis. Do you think that Spirulina is enough?

I’ve started making some milkshakes in the morning, fresh fruit, yougurt, with 1 tsp of Spirulina and 1 tblsp of Maca Root… all in an attempt to maximize fertility.
Today I added some Brown Rice Protein Powder, but the taste is almost too strong to stand! Plus, because I put it in a thermos so it would last till I got to work, it became all thick and mushy in the end.
My question, is Spirulina enough of a protein on its own?

Get organic hemp protein, the best, pure and natural as for protein, drink wheat grass juice, organic, the best for everything.

For fertility , in general spirulina is not enough, eat organic fruit and vegetebles as much as you can.

Get dha and folic acid.

So why are they spraying chemtrails or chemical contrails which block out natural sunlight? WHY are they doing this? If the World Health Organisation were so concerned about the swine flu pandemic they would be aware that natural sunlight is a very good source for the body to make vitamin D and would be concerned about the artificial cloud covering which is being created by aircraft now worldwide. My first videos in April 2009 started with the heavy chemtrail spraying in my area showing blue skies turn a hazy white blocking out the sun for the rest of the day. DEFRA says chemicals added to aviation fuel can be a cost effective way to spray a so-called protective screen as to block out the suns rays and reduce global warming. ( This however would have an opposite effect. Please look up Global Dimming and the Hydrological Cycle on Google. ) BUT, is this really about protecting the earth or is it about stopping you receiving natural sunlight and making vitamin D?

Vitamin D is important for helping the immune system fight the flu virus. One reason why the flu may be more contagious in the winter time is because of the lack of sunlight. The lack of sunlight prevents our skin from producing sufficient levels of vitamin D. There is now documented evidence about the roles of solar ultraviolet-B radiation and vitamin D in reducing case-fatality rates from the 1918-1918 influenza Pandemic in EU.

Which mean the vaccination doesnt work so well as a unsuppressed immune response is needed to build up anti-bodies and immunity to that particular vaccine. So another reason to block out the natural sunlight.

If our governments were so concerned about the swine flu surely they would put a stop to these climate change experiments which blocks out everyones natural sunlight. The fact that they or the media will not even report on the chemtrails happening above us only leads me to be more suspicious of what the chemical spraying is really about.

Hi. Is it okay to skip taking the folic acid and prenatal vitamins now and then?

Sometimes I forget to take them and also sometimes I dont feel well enough to take them. I think they make me feel sick sometimes. Thanks so much for your opinion.

It depends on how often once in awhile is! If you only miss it once or twice a week, you shouldn’t worry. A lot of women say that the pre natal vitamins make them sick. The baby takes all of your nutrients, so when you skip them, you are pretty much only hurting yourself. As long as you have a well balanced diet, you should be fine. I think you should communicate with your doctor a little bit more. If those pills don’t make you feel well, let your doctor know, and maybe there is a better alternative! You also need to be honest about not taking them all the time. Congartulations on your pregnancy, and good luck to you!
