Dr Whiting on Full Spectrum Nutrition and Mulit-Vitamins

Posted by Admin | Spirulina Powder | Wednesday 10 March 2010 12:31 pm

Full Spectrum nutrition is the concept of providing the body with all the essential nutrients it needs in the right potency, ratio and absorption factors to ensure maximum benefit. By using a liquid delivery system, we can increase absorption of nutrients many times since liquids supplements, with the proper pH, have two opportunities for absorption, the stomach and small intestine. Also liquid supplements afford us the opportunity to adjust ratios of one nutrient to another, matching the natural presence of these nutrients in the human body. We have developed a liquid dietary supplement, which is now being offered by Phoenix Nutritionals, Inc., and it provides mega doses of over 130 nutrients including fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, phytonutrients and antioxidants. This is the identical formula we use on our clients and patients at our Centers around the world. Full Spectrum Nutrition, providing all the essential nutrients known to be involved in human health and longevity such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, phytonutrients and antioxidants, and for the first time in a liquid dietary supplement, even the essential fatty acids, can rebalance the body chemistry, increasing energy and the sense of well-being. Now Full Spectrum is finally available in one convenient bottle! This formula contains a wider range of vital antioxidant nutrients such as lycopene, bilberry, milk thistle, lutein for the eyes, and alpha lipoic acid, one of the most powerful anti-aging antioxidants presently known to science. When you consider everything contained The Full Spectrum concept, the vitamins, 75+ minerals, essential fatty acids, phytonutrients from plants, heavy hitting antioxidants such as lycopene, lutein, alpha lipoic acid, bilberry, and milk thistle, as well as the full range of amino acids, you just can’t find a more complete formula. By combining all these nutrients into one bottle, the cost to the end user is but a fraction of purchasing this range of nutrients in individual products. You can obtain the exact same formula that we use with all of our clients and patients at our Centers around the world by contacting Phoenix Nutritionals at 1-800-440-2390 or from their website at www.phoenixnutritionals.com. There are several forms that vitamin and mineral supplements to choose from. The most common and often least expensive are in tablet form. Tablets offer higher potencies in smaller spaces due to the tight compression of the material. Tablets have the convenience of being able to take fewer pills but the breakdown and absorption of many tablet formulas is very poor. You may have heard of the stories about the thousands of vitamin pills found in sewers and septic tanks that have passed through the body undigested. Sadly, these stories are true. Those at the greatest risk for absorption problems are those over the age of 50. As we age our ability to digest and break down hard tablets decreases. This is why it is important to consider the delivery system for those of that age group. The better supplements are found in capsule form. Capsules can be either from animal or vegetarian sources. Encapsulated multi-vitamin/mineral products tend to break down in the stomach very rapidly, usually less than 3 minutes. This allows the natural stomach acids to begin to prepare the nutrients for absorption. This is further enhanced if you take your multi-vitamin/mineral supplement with a meal. The food in the stomach will also increase the rate at which your system will absorb the nutrients. The last delivery system for a good Full Spectrum Supplement would be in a liquid suspension. Liquid supplements are far superior to either tablets or even capsules since we can easily adjust the pH of the fluid in which the nutrients are suspended. Keep in mind that most nutrients absorb at the cellular level in an acidic pH. By acidifying the liquid base, we add another layer of increased absorption potential. Another area of discussion when it comes to multi-vitamin supplements is that of additives or fillers. Fillers are most often used as binder in hard tablets, but can also be used in some capsule formulas as well. Some fillers are harmless and actually enhance absorption by preventing moisture and caking of the nutrients. Other fillers in supplements are there simply to fill out the tablets or capsules by increasing the volume of the material contained within. To conclude our discussion of Multi-vitamin and mineral formulas, there are several essential points that a consumer should consider. The first factor is of course, potency. A formula must provide adequate amounts of each of the known essential nutrients in order to meet the bodys daily requirement. The minimum dosage is rarely enough as we all absorb nutrients at different levels of efficiency. Next we must consider absorption. It has been said that you are what you eat, but we know that really you are what your body is able to absorb and assimilate.

When taking Vitamin supplements do you prefer to drink your vitamins or swallow a pill or capsule?

Posted by Admin | Spirulina Powder | Wednesday 10 March 2010 4:30 am

Vitamins now come in chewable, liquid so you can swig them down, or just toss a couple in your mouth and wash them down.
What is your preference?
And do you take yours daily or whenever you think of it?
Are you sporadic in taking them?

It doesn’t matter what form of vitamins one takes, 2 important factors determine its effectiveness. 1 is absorption 2 is potency

I would only prefer Isotonix line whenever it is available because it’s the only isotonic form of supplements in the market that provides superior absorption rate that other form cannot beat.

In order to form pills, filling, additives needs to be added, these are waste to our body and increase digestion time.

In additions, no matter if we drink, eat or take pills, everything need to be broken down into isotonic solution in our stomach first before our body can absorb. Stomach is very high acidic, thus most of the nutrients are destroyed in our stomach before reaching small intestine for absorption. So with pill form, you are looking for absorption rate of about 10 to 40% depending on our body’s digestion ability and the ingredients to form the pills. Please keep in mind that human’s digestion ability decease by age.

With Isotonix line, since it’s in isotonic form by adding certain amount of water to one capful of powder (it tastes great too!), vitamin won’t stay in stomach and will go to intestine within 5 minutes so you are looking for absorption rate of 90% and higher, higher absorption rate even compare to IV injection.

No filling or binding are added to the Isotonix line so you are guarantee to have best potency for the vitamin you take.

can i eat a couple cold-eeze a day for a zinc supplement?

Posted by Admin | Spirulina Powder | Wednesday 10 March 2010 4:30 am

They are notorious for causing heartburn…

Why not just take a multivitamin?
Zinc is used in over 300 metabolic reactions
http://expasy.org/cgi-bin/show_thumbnails.pl (isn’t that snazzy?)
so why not take it with the things your body needs to help it do its job?
If you do that, you’ll get greater benefit than taking it alone….it doesn’t occur alone in nature, your body doesn’t to like use it alone either….

Be well

Should I be taking all these supplements?

Posted by Admin | Spirulina Powder | Wednesday 10 March 2010 4:30 am

I was just asking someone online what supplements they’ve been taking, since I seen their great results. He told me he’s been taking all of these supplements, along with a raw vegan diet.

Bio-fermented brown rice protein 42g/day
Colostrum 21g/day
Creatine 10g/day
MSM powder 5g/day
BCAAs /w L-Glutamine 4.3g/day
Coconut oil
Spirulina/Chlorella powder

So what do you think? Im 6′2, about ~165pounds. Im pretty skinny right now, looking to gain some mass(not to much) and muscle…

Is taking all these supplements safe? I dont know much about this stuff.

yeah, but only go 5g of creatine per day if you go more it can really do some damage

Im Pregnant and now i need to know about the prenatal vitamins?

Posted by Admin | Spirulina Powder | Monday 8 March 2010 1:18 am

I just found out im pregnant on thursday 4-30-09 which makes me a little over 5 weeks. I called my doctor and everyone keeps asking me if im going to take prenatal vitamins. Now everyone in my family did not take them but one girl i work with started taking them and now she finds out her baby has spinal bifida. Should i still take vitamins? Im 22 years old 106 lbs (right now) and 5′4".

Im just scared my baby will end up like the one person i know taking the other vitamins. im scared now what do i do. Also this is my 2nd pregnancy first one i miscarried at 10 weeks but never knew i was pregnant.

thanks….

Yes u should definitly still take them. They are a very important key to your health and your babys.

For a mother’s health, and the health of her baby, she is advised to take so-called "prenatal vitamins" during pregnancy. These are specially formulated multivitamins that make up for any nutritional deficiencies in the mother’s diet. While the supplements contain numerous vitamins and minerals, their folic acid, iron, and calcium content are especially important.

Why Do Pregnant Women Need Folic Acid, Iron, and Calcium?
Folic acid can reduce your risk of having a baby with a serious birth defect of the brain and spinal cord, called the "neural tube." A baby with spina bifida, the most common neural tube defect, is born with a spine that is not closed. The exposed nerves are damaged, leaving the child with varying degrees of paralysis, incontinence, and sometimes mental retardation.

Neural tube defects develop in the first 28 days after conception, before many women realize they are pregnant. Because about half of all pregnancies are unplanned, the U.S. Public Health Service recommends that all women of childbearing age get 400 micrograms of folic acid each day. In fact, the FDA now requires that all flour products — such as breads, buns, and bagels — be fortified with extra folic acid. A woman who has had a prior child with a neural tube defect should discuss the appropriate dose of folic acid with her doctor before her next pregnancy. Studies have shown that taking a larger dose (up to 4,000 micrograms) at least one month before and during the first trimester may be beneficial.

There are natural sources of folic acid: green leafy vegetables, nuts, beans, and citrus fruits. It’s also found in many fortified breakfast cereals and some vitamin supplements.

Calcium during pregnancy can prevent a new mother from losing her own bone density as the fetus uses the mineral for bone growth.

Iron helps both the mother and baby’s blood carry oxygen.

While a daily vitamin supplement is no substitute for a healthy diet, most women need supplements to make sure they get adequate levels of these minerals.

Are All Prenatal Vitamins the Same?
No, they’re not. Look for one that contains approximately:

4,000 and 5,000 IU (international units) of vitamin A
800 and 1,000 mcg (1 mg) of folic acid
400 IU of vitamin D
200 to 300 mg of calcium
70 mg of vitamin C
1.5 mg of thiamine
1.6 mg of riboflavin
2.6 mg of pyridoxine
17 mg of niacinamide
2.2 mcg of vitamin B12
10 mg of vitamin E
15 mg of zinc
30 mg of iron
Your doctor or midwife can also advise you on certain brands. In some cases, your health care provider will give you a prescription for a certain type of prenatal vitamin.

I take zinc along with other supplements such as Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Flax Seed Oil, and Acidophilus for acne and I have noticed a difference. Also, cutting down on sugar helps.

Help me create a healthy shake with a boost.?

Posted by Admin | Spirulina Powder | Monday 8 March 2010 1:18 am

I have been making shakes in the morning and am looking to add a boost. I typically use 1 banana, frozen berries, some acai juice, dash of apple cider vinegar (organic), some milk and a spoon of spirulina. I am looking for other powders to boost my shake or ‘kick it up a notch’. I am looking for healthy, and maybe energy type stuff. Anything that will make my shake healthier would be awesome. Thanks!

hemp/soy isolate or whey protein powder
wheat germ
ground flax seeds

Hulk Hogan, Vince McMahon, Lord Alfred Hayes and “VITAMINS”

Posted by Admin | Spirulina Powder | Sunday 7 March 2010 3:35 pm

With all the controversy surrounding Wrestling and Steroids right now i thought this would be a very interesting WWE(F) clip to show from the 80’s.

Some very peculiar quotes:

“…once you get these on your system there’s no stoppin’…”

“…these things are guaranteed to keep you going all day long…”

and my favorite:

“…it will change your life, you will grow six inches over night…”
